I'm gonna be leaving soon. It's really starting to catch on now since I've been working nonstop.

I've been looking into Patreon. I am considering some ideas for it. I'm not going to go all out though. No 1 reason: Deployment. No 2: I want my art to still be fun. Like I want to use my art making as a getaway, an escape from work. I don't want it to become work like the days of the clay fox factory.

I really want to get back into teaching again. I searched for art teaching jobs a few days ago. The search results were fantastic compared to four years ago. If I could just get a really good curriculum together to make up for the lack of years of teaching experience....

Will I still be updating DE? I don't know yet. I'll try.

I submitted some new art. Some is kinda on the old side (far back as 2012) but hey I want to show that I'm still making art.

I wish I didn't lose my sketches I did Fall of 2014.  I swear I had like over a 100 of em. I did so much for Vixen Black... Hopefully they are not lost lost. Just in storage until I move to Iowa next year.

Doing something I've never had done before, Demon Eater is being translated into Spanish. :icondavid-irastra: David-Irastra has offered his services for translation, lettering, and localization. Thank you. Thank you. :)
You can check out his progress and read it here:

I'm feeling that I finally got stuff to talk about.

First I'm going to try to go to Anthrocon this year in July. My friend has been so enthusiastic about it. He's making me excited too. I'm going to attempt to get into their artist alley otherwise it's gonna be promotion and freebies.

I'm working on blank pages of DE in attempt to get DE translated into other languages. I already have an offer to have DE translated into Russian. (I have a number of friends that were adopted from Russia and a Russian linguist friend in the Airforce, so they said they let me know how good the translation is.) I want to someday get DE translated into Spanish and French too.

I haven't been putting much art in DA due to most of my work lately is DE pages. I'm working on building a large buffer so I can take some time off to research the next story arc for DE. I want to actually go to the places the characters will go to. I don't wanna just watch movies or look at pictures online. I wanna be there and experience it.

I have been tired of my sculpture work. I've been experimenting with Radioshack's melty plastics to try to make a better sculpture. The problem is I just don't have much inspiration. Make a fox...make a dog...make a wolf....I'm not feeling the love. So many cool things are already out there in stores... I just can't think of what to make that would be really special. So for now I'm making things, but mostly experiments...things not worth posting yet... Kinda like what college art class used to be.. which can be nice.

So first off, the move to an apartment was canceled. The roommate I was going to have couldn't go through with moving and the new one wants to start from scratch looking for a place. The move out and move in was totally canceled. So that's where I am at with that.

I am still doing a lot of art but it's like sketches and in process items. I just don't feel that they are worthy to post here.

So for after my military career I got some ideas on what I would like to do. Some crazy ideas but maybe it might just work. I want to start a storefront business that sells art and fantasy items you would find at a Renaissance fair or anime convention artist alleys. Oh and I don't want to sell only my works... I want to sell your art.

My pitch: There are more exceptional artists selling their art as a career than ever before. Artist Alleys are getting more and more expensive and competitive to sell at AND it is costly to travel all year to go to these conventions. Online sales can be a boom or bust. What if there was a physical place you can sell your best works at ALL YEAR? (or at least add on to your con and online sales)

I'll talk more about it later...

I got an apartment! Moving in Dec 1st.

Now that I have a reliable address I'm going to work on book printing again.
DE 1,2,3 and 4 for 2015? Maybe.

Also I get to go home to MN at the beginning of Jan until the 12th.

That is all.

So I can't go to Nekocon this year... Bummer.

I'm not even going home(Minnesota) for Christmas. I'm going to Florida for New Years. So sadly I won't be able to see a lot of you guys at home.

Dispite going out to sea off and on I am finding some time for Demon Eater. I made 5 pages last week so there will be a buffer this and next month.
The story is still keeping me captivated. I would love to get to the end of the arc before the deployment, but I'm not going that fast.

Vixen Black is facing some difficulties with the writing. I didn't like the modivation of some of the characters so I am in the process of a rewrite. Better to do that before I get too deep in the story.

I had an ending in mind for TPCTH. I might try to complete it in one more book (200 some pages or so.) No time for it now but perhaps after move back to MN.

One last con for 2014... Already? Yeah that's just how it is with a full time job. I am working like a madman just to get off at a decent time on Friday. I already worked until 8:00pm today.

Going to Anime Mid-Atlantic this weekend. www.animemidatlantic.com/
Got a table and everything. I hope to do well.

Made a lot more clay figures, some potions and canvas magnets, but nothing too different from what I have already posted here so I'm not going to post em this week.

It is the last con this year but it's going to be a good thing cause I'm going to work more on comic pages and printing comics this year. I am getting great feedback here(Thank you!) on Vixen Black so I'm going to keep posting it here. I'm sure my DA updates will totally spam you watchers once I really get on those pages.

Vixen Black
So my webcomic Vixen Black started last weekend. I am not going to go all out promoting it until I finish a chapter and people that come to it get a good feel on what's it about. I decided to make it a bit of a challenge for me and make it black and white only. No shades no colors. I've been looking at heavy black shades comics like Hellboy, Blankets, and any comic I can find to help with it. The reason I didn't want to go for color this time is color is too expensive to print independently. (Especially since I like telling stories with many pages. Can't condense stories into 20 page comics that well. )Demon Eater is decently popular online ,but I can't sell printed books well because I have to print in color. I still sell more TPCTH books and I haven't updated that comic in almost three years. I did leave VP open for maybe coloring in the future but it's not a big deal to get it super popular online. I am making this comic for conventions and print. If you want to see what I got so far check out the gallery.

Demon Eater
Shoot guys. I was planning to work on next page yesterday when I got home from work, but the big boss at work found junk for the entire division to do until 9:30pm on a Friday. And... I gotta work tomorrow (Sunday). I'm even debating coming in to work tonight to fix this light, but I keep telling myself don't do it when you don't have to be there. I work enough already and I don't get paid by the hour. I have a rough draft of the comic page...but no page...

Commissions
Working on Okami blush god sculptures this month for a commission. Nothing new except for the new penguin and whale. Will take pictures of them when finished.

Improving?
Still working on this whole upping-my-game-thing. Got some oil clay but no time to make anything. After AnimeMidAtlantic convention, I plan to experiment more since I won't be able to go to conventions for a while. I might not be able to go to conventions until next year. I guess conventions are a big motivator for me. Gonna try real hard to run two webcomics at once. Oooo...man.
-Been trying to get into sketching now. I've been doing it a lot at work lately. I used to rarely do it. I would just draw it on my final draft, erase, erase and there done. I've been looking at many artists that have dramatically improved on DA and noticed that they seem to sketch all the time. So I'm gonna sketch more too.

When I am done with my current job in two years I really want to get back into teaching. My license was renewed until 2019. I can't leave my current job until 2016. I know that it will be very hard to get a full time teaching job since I haven't taught in over two years. What can I do to make my resume look good by that time? Should I go back to school? Should I volunteer? Make some lesson plans?

First off Ring of Fire Con went wonderfully. I thought I would hate running low attendance panels but with the projector not available I simply have more personal consultation panels. Just had my computer out showing stuff across the table to a small group of pulled up chairs. It was no stress. I really enjoyed it. You know I might just do it again in the future if I can't get an Artist Alley table.

There was a huge possibility of me going to another ship to Spain this spring but looks like it's not happening. I was looking forward to seeing another country and getting paid more, but my friends here in Virginia were so ecstatic that I was not leaving them I guess I should just be happy with things staying the way they are.

Anime MidAtlantic is still happening that means. I got an artist alley table reserved. YES! To manage time better I'm not signing up for panels for that con.

I want to make some better art for conventions. The cute little animals did do well in the Midwest cons, but here there's a lot of really good sculpture artists. For example, check out this genius :iconeattoast: . I saw her at Interventioncon and Nekocon.

I'd love to try out resin sculptures in the future. I am still making plans to make a Saturno bird plushie sometime.

I got a great new idea for another webcomic. It's working title is Vixen Black. I don't really want to put out too much yet. I want to have a definitive ending to the entire story before I begin constructing the comic.

1. Tell us about your favorite writing project/universe that you've worked with and why.
I used to like the Planet Closest to Heaven a lot but I seem to be focused on the world in Demon Eater now. They are both Scifi about two different planets and the alien life among them. I was inspired by the writings of Orson Scott Card in his Ender's Game series. Why do I like it? I like writing how characters deal with challenging environments.

2. How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?
I like to have fewer characters. (like 6 or less main characters) It keeps the story on track and more focus can be placed on them. I write male main characters easier than female ,but I really like female villains.

3. How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you're writing about fictional places)?
I seem to have a thing for stars and planet names such as, Saturno(Saturn), Starla (Stars), Estella (means star. Estella is from a story I haven't put out yet) and Venus.

4. Tell us about one of your first stories/characters!
My first stories were when I was 8. It was a series called "Hamster Island". It was about rainbow colored hamsters being stranded on an island. I drew it like a children's book without words. Little did I know it was my first comic too.

5. By age, who is your youngest character? Oldest? How about "youngest"?
I have characters age as they go so in the beginning of my comic Demon Eater, Saturno was just a few days old... Time goes by quickly. Characters don't stay the same age for long... Saturno in the current chapter is 16 so that is still younger than my other characters. Oldest? I'm not sure... My oldest characters are female and they don't like to give out age..

6. Where are you most comfortable writing? At what time of day? Computer or good ol' pen and paper?
If I'm in a boring situation at work. (Like a sit and can't be sleeping watch.) A lot of my ideas come to me before I fall asleep in bed. Anytime. both.

7. Do you listen to music while you write? What kind? Are there any songs you like to relate/apply to your characters?
I can't write and listen to music. I can't even have the TV on. Too distracting. But I can draw to music.

8. What's your favorite genre to write? To read?
To write - Coming-of-Age-Stories, biological scifi(less machines more biology), and horror
To read - Coming-of-Age-Stories, biological scifi

9. How do you get ideas for your characters? Describe the process of creating them.
I have scenarios play out in my head. What if this happens?...what would my characters do?

10. What are some really weird situations your characters have been in? Everything from serious canon scenes to meme questions counts!
I have done a weight gain chapter with one of my characters. Something you are not supposed to do (gonna lose your mainstream audience) but it was so funny I did it. It was such a guilty pleasure. I still like to reread that chapter.

11. Who is your favorite character to write? Least favorite?
Saturno from Demon Eater just writes himself. Least favorite was Starla from TPCTH. The page updates always took a dive every time I did a scene with mostly her.

12. In what story did you feel you did the best job of world building?
Demon Eater because it was so simple. Cannibalistic world where the inhabitants only food is each other. K.I.S.S.

13. What's your favorite culture to write, fictional or not?
The not too distant future.

14. How do you map out locations, if needed? Do you have any to show us?
I mapped out interiors to the inside buildings of my characters like the Human Club's house.

15. Mid way question! Tell us about a writer you admire, whether professional or not!
Orson Scott Card. I liked the moral struggle his characters go through. Also the slight Christian overtones were nice. Nancy Farmer is also very good.

16. Do you write romantic relationships? How do you do with those, and how "far" are you willing to go in your writing?
It's hard to write a good romance for me. I have love interests between my characters but I tend to write them falling apart.

17. Favorite protagonist and why!
Saturno for now. He's like my hero. He deals with all this crap and horrible situations and becomes stronger by overcoming them.

18. Favorite antagonist and why!
Kinda a spoiler... so I can't say. I like writing the female character that you think is your friend... until the betrayal.

19. Favorite minor that decided to shove themselves into the spotlight and why!
Vinchi is pushing himself there. I already wrote a side story about him. Might make it a side comic.

20. What are your favorite character interactions to write?
The naughty ones.

21. Do any of your characters have children? How well do you write them?
Not at this time.

22. How long does it usually take you to complete an entire story—from planning to writing to posting (if you post your work)?
Have yet to complete a story.

23. How willing are you to kill your characters if the plot so demands it? What's the most interesting way you've killed someone?
Oh I plan to. I mostly do the normal fight scene kill, nothing too special.

24. Do any of your characters have pets? Tell us about them.
Starla had sigh... Pepe. Pepe was awesome. Pepe was a evil guy turned into a cat/dog. He was my favorite for a while.

25. Let's talk art! Do you draw your characters? Do others draw them? Pick one of your OCs and post your favorite picture of them!
I draw them into a webcomic. Just check my gallery.

26. Along similar lines, do appearances play a big role in your stories? Tell us about them, or if not, how you go about designing your characters.
I think its important to make each character look very different than the rest of my characters. I like to have my character's appearance change slightly as the story goes on.

27. Have you ever written a character with physical or mental disabilities? Describe them, and if there's nothing major to speak of, tell us a few smaller ones.
Saturno was a deformed muppet freak of nature a few chapters back. I did though change him so his appearance more just looks like a grey skinned dude. I plan to have issue in the future but don't want to get into it now.

28. Final question! Tag someone! And tell us what you like about that person as a writer and/or about one of his/her characters!

I tag... :iconotakusora: :iconimaginationstudio: :iconkaiyademon: :iconbugbyte:

Yep as I've been saying all year... work has got me very busy all the time... and pokemon. (I think I've gotten everything I want out of X until pokebank opens.)

I've got some arts to submit over the past few months.. I just need to take some pictures of it all. (Perhaps with a better cam too.)

For conning, I believe I am going to be a guest for Ring Of Fire Con in Virginia Beach VA from 28 of Feb to 1st of March 2014.

I have planning to be in Artist Alley at AnimeMidatlantic 2014 in June. Got the table, but got the Navy leave? ooooo... ummm...

I'm working on converting files for Demon Eater book 1,2,3 and 4 this month. Since Comixpress is gone I've decided to move em over to Kablam. I have to redo book 1 and 2 all over again converting pdf to tiff. This may take a while...

Last if there is any interest in paying for an ad in the newly printed DE book, it is still a possiblity.

  • Mood: Tired
  • Playing: pokemon X put a fork in me im done for now.

It's been a while.

Intervention con went good last month. It was a much smaller con than I thought it to be. So small it was mostly artists selling to artists small. I did have fun. Bought a lot of cool art. It was a bit more on the pricey side since I went alone... so sorry to say I can't go next year.

I think for the rest of my two years in Virginia I will stick with local cons to save or make money.

I've been still looking around for printers to take over comixpress. After doing a few quotes with some print companies, I think that even though DE has a little bit of a following, I just don't think it's worth having to buy a bulk 1000 books from a printer just to get the cost-per-book down enough. I just don't think I will be able to sell enough to come even in five years. Color printing is just so expensive for this endeaver. I'm thinking I might just go with Ka-blam anyway. I hate to have to convert 400 plus pdfs into tiff, but I just can't think of any cheaper alternatives.

I'm done with FSA (food service attendant for the Navy) now. I hope to have more time to work on getting DE vol 1, 2, 3 and 4 into print. I've decided to cut the cost of volume 4, I'd end the book in the middle of the Killing Spree chapter. (Maybe rename it cause no killing was in that chapter....) So it means... I'm on book 5. Wow... I'm on book 5....

A bit on a personal note I broke up with my boyfriend I knew for four years. It was a long distance relationship that was falling apart for a while. It has really opened up my future. Now I'm not completely sure what I plan to do with my life once I'm done with this enlistment.

Neko Con in Norfolk VA is a bust. I've been put on the waiting list saying they will only let in so many webcomic artists. I know webcomic artists don't quit ,so next year perhaps I should market myself as a sculpture artist? A painter?

There also this interesting new con called Ring of Fire. I'm making an attept to become a webcomic guest there. Going to try for a table this week, learning from Nekocon try not to pigeonhole myself as just a webcomic artist.

Games!:

I'm pretty exited about pokemon again. I'm trying to make an all pink team, a furry team, and... a mustache team. I'm hoping to battle and trade with folks at conventions. Man that X and Y sounds fun.

My trying to put in some time for cons this year.

In a few weeks I'm going to Anime Mid-Atlantic. www.animemidatlantic.com
I'm going to run two panels. Giant Origami Challenge and Growing up in the Fandom
I'm going try to summit some of my art to the art gallery.

The big convention I really want to go to is Intervention in DC. interventioncon.com
I got a vender there already. I'm in the process of trying to secure leave with my supervisors at work to go(which is like pulling teeth.)

And then maybe Neko Con in Norfolk VA. I've applied for an art table but so far haven't heard anything from them. I'm mostly doing this one for my friend so she can get the feel of selling art at a con.

The contest is still underway. jillyfoo.deviantart.com/art/DE…

I got two entries. Which is really much less than I thought. I guess you get back as much as you put in and I just don't really feel like pressuring anyone over this. I've just been so busy with other things.

And life.... Work has been pretty tough. I feel like I am three months behind everyone in my division in pqs. I didn't get promoted this round, but half of everyone else that went up for it did. I don't really like the idea of having more people nanny and back-seat-drive over me (when they really don't need to). It seems when I finally get enough time for making art, I come to work the next day and find myself still behind. I feel like the only things I learned in college were to make myself personable and sell things. I am not a good electrician. I was thinking when I get out, I want to start my own business. A storefront. My mom wants to start a quilt shop. I really don't know much about making quilts. I thought maybe combine it with something else... I want to start an art shop. Not my art per say, but sell other peoples art. Not like a gallery, but a craft or gift shop. It all depends on the location if it can work or not. I'm still thinking about it.
